Key Features

My favorite feature is the ability to cook any type of rice to perfection.  The microchip (or “brain”) of the rice cooker automatically adjusts the cooking cycle based on the type of rice you are cooking.  It handles pre-soaking the grains, adjusting time and temperature of the cook cycle, as well as the final holding period during steaming.

Some other nice features include:

  • Detachable inner lid which is easy to clean
  • Steaming basket for vegetables
  • Thick inner cooking pan which provides even heating
  • Measuring cup and nonstick rice spatula included
  • Retractable power cord

Types of Rice you can Cook

Brown Rice

Brown rice tends to be harder than other types, so the preheating time is extended to soften the rice and help with water absorption.  The Lower cooking temperature is used to fully cook the rice without it becoming soft or mushy.

Sushi Rice

A standard cook cycle using a bit less water to produce slightly firmer rice.

Mixed Rice

A cook cycle especially for rice with added ingredients (vegetables or spices).  Extended preheating to promote absorption of the spices and a slightly longer cooking cycle.

Steam

A time-based cook cycle for steaming.  I love this cycle for fresh vegetables.

Cake

A special setting for baking a cake.  No oven required!

Porridge/Oatmeal

Lower temperature with a longer cook time to cook fluffy porridge or oatmeal.  Great for making breakfast for a hungry family.

Summary

The NS-TSC10 is good for medium-sized families, small families with frequent visitors. Larger families may find the capacity a bit small.  The computerized controls make cooking perfect rice foolproof and the numerous cooking provide great flexibility.  It looks great on the kitchen counter and the retractable power cord is a nice touch.  The steamer basket is a bit small, so if that is a primary concern you may be a bit disappointed.

Overall it is a solid unit which excels at its primary mission which is cooking the perfect batch of rice.
